What You'll Do

Are you a seasoned tax professional with a passion for real estate? Do you thrive in a dynamic environment where you can apply your technical expertise while mentoring and developing others? At Cohen & Co, we’re looking for a skilled Tax Manager to join our team and play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional service to our clients.

In this role, you’ll oversee the overall client experience, manage deadlines and expectations, and provide tax strategy and compliance expertise on complex clients.

 

Client Experience 

  • Lead client engagements, ensuring smooth communication, clear deadline management, and consistent alignment with client expectations.

Tax Strategy & Compliance:

  • Calculate tax effects of real estate transactions, manage partner expectations, and provide comprehensive tax guidance on matters including partnership allocations, 1031 exchanges, and more.

Team Leadership:

  • Guide, mentor, and motivate junior staff, seniors, and managers, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and personal development are key.

Billing & WIP Management:

  • Handle billing, work in progress (WIP) management, and ensure efficient tax workflow, all while maintaining high standards of client service.

Tax Technical Expertise:

  • Apply your deep knowledge of real estate tax issues such as partnership taxation, 704(b) and 704(c) allocations, waterfall calculations, and tax credits like 1031 exchanges to deliver strategic, accurate advice.

    Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership and communication skills to lead engagements, manage teams, and build lasting relationships.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; CPA or JD required at the manager level.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience at a public accounting firm, with a focus on real estate tax.
  • Strong proficiency in partnership allocations, tax credits, 1031 exchanges, and real estate tax technical knowledge.
  • Experience advising clients on tax issues like business restructuring, tax reform impacts on passthroughs, and tax controversy.
  • Proficiency in CCH Axcess, Outlook, Excel, Word, and Adobe.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and take initiative to drive projects forward.

Estimated Salary Range:  $85,000 - 155,000*
